Overview
Jackson County Juvenile Court
The Jackson County Juvenile Court is responsible for a wide range of matters including the following: Unruly Complaints; Truancy Complaints; Juvenile Traffic Citations; Delinquency Offenses (Felonies and Misdemeanors); Abuse, Neglect & Dependency Matters; and Custody and Child Support Matters where the parents of the child(ren) are unmarried. Finally, the Juvenile Court offers a broad-spectrum diversionary approach for children with first time, non-violent offenses. Our diversion offerings utilize a host of community partners to “wrap around” our children in an effort to steer them away from the juvenile justice systems.
Meet Judge Skaggs!
Justin W. Skaggs has served as the the judge of the Probate & Juvenile Divisions of the Jackson County, Ohio Court of Common Pleas since February 9, 2021. Prior to assuming the bench, Judge Skaggs operated a private law practice for more than ten years on Pearl Street in Jackson, Ohio serving thousands of clients in various areas including domestic relations, criminal defense, probate, and small business matters. Prior to declaring candidacy for judicial election in 2019, Judge Skaggs served on the Jackson County Board of Elections for approximately ten years.
Judge Skaggs places great emphasis on community engagement and can often be found at community events supporting local schools and charitable organizations. Judge Skaggs is a life-long resident of Jackson County, attended Jackson City Schools, Ohio University, and Ohio Northern University.
